Can Spine Surgeries Be Outpatient?!
In this video, I discussed the definition of what outpatient even means. I’ll discuss who gets outpatient spine surgery and who doesn’t. I’ll also discuss which surgeries I like doing outpatient, I like doing them outpatient, and which surgeries I do.
-
I actually record, edit, and upload all videos ON MY OWN. Videos like this take weeks!! so I appreciate the constructive criticism, they’re a labor of love, but I really think it helps my patients in Dallas, as well as other spine surgery patients understand what’s going on and how to get out of pain!

We do telemedicine all the time, see my website at the top right for more info on that!

What do you think about people with Ehlers Danlos syndrome hyper-mobile with spondylolesthesis arthritis and pars defect and spinal stenosis with thickening of the ligamentum flavum (sp) getting alif 2-3 level fusion? Do you recommend a surgeon near the Ohio West Virginia Pennsylvania Maryland area?

I have similar conditions with spondylolisthesis at L5-S1, L3 & L4 disc Bulges forward and backward, Dextroscoliosis of 25 degrees and other Ailments in the spine - all created from having a 1" Shorter right leg sustained as a result of fractured femur in 1966 playing HS football at 15 years old. From hips misalignments to Sacroiliitis for Deacdes, the Leg Length Discrepancy has wreaked Havoc with my spine. The LLD was left Unaddressed by the doctor back then and after 16 years or so, the Lower Back pains & stiffness started. Smoking for decades, not drinking water on a regular basis, and maintaining poor Posture (forward Head posture0 also contributed to the maladies. As an excellent Rheumatologist told me in 2018 after a few visits with her, (she ckecked me for RA and Anklyosing Spondyliosis [AS] - I was neg for both), Most if Not All Back pains are generated by the SI Joints ( I have Sacroiliitis for years). The SI Joints are "Ground Zero" - everything is affected uo from there and down from there, by affecting the nerves.

Hello Dr Donnelly , I have been thinking watching you for a long time and and I’ve had a long history with my back and I’m in the worst condition I’ve ever been in. I have sent you my MRI disc and will send my current X-rays Tonight and I am hoping to get the MILD procedure from you as soon as I can. Having very hard time getting around and sleep is hard to get. I’m a new Grandfather and really could use your help. I am in Florida and I will travel to Dallas for this.

Hello Doctor…I’m going on September 30th. The surgeon is going 3 ways, my belly, my side and then the back to place the rods and screws. I suffer from previous compression fractures from my neck to low back(20 years ago) DDD, stenosis, arthritis and some lumbar scoliosis . I’m 52 in great health, besides my back problems. How long do you think my surgery will be? What is an approximate down time? I enjoy ALL your insightful information 👏👍

Hi Doc Donnally, a spinal surgeon wants me to get a fusion but I don't want that I have spinal stenosis L5-S1 pain and SI Joint point I can bend without pain sometimes so the fusion seems like it would just add problems I have terrible pain when sitting and getting up, I have even struggled lifting both legs off the ground and have had sharp shooting pain laying on my side between Endoscopic Lumbar Foraminotomy or Ultrasonic Laminaplasty what appears to be the best option and is it possible that I might need both surgeries to fix different things or would the Ultrasonic Laminaplasty be sufficient? Plus how common is the Ultrasonic Laminaplasty my chiropractors never heard of it I showed them the procedure they were shocked. I have family 50 minutes away from you would possibly be interested in a consultation of sort.

Hi I have neuropathy for 1 year and 4 months and it’s getting worse. I have deep infiltrated endometriosis in my pelvic. I thought it could have been my back but dokters say mri is fine. Have you had women with the same problem? That is indeed was the endometriosis pressing the S1,s2 nerves? Or that is was missed herniated disk?

My dad had a spinal fusion. The recovery time and process for him were very extreme, and he's still not 100% better, even after completing physical therapy. However, he doesn't regret getting the procedure because he could not stand for more than a few minutes before the fusion. Now he's going on long walks again, and he's been able to lose some weight as well. Interestingly, the hip pain that caused him to seek care in the first place is still an issue. The surgery helped his hip, but the pain hasn't completely gone away like the back and leg pain has.

I have severe left moderate right foraminal stenosis and a 4 mm bulging disc that is abutting the thecal sac all the symptoms you mention I have. It’s not fun at all and the flare ups I’m having seem to be coming more frequently. I have done 6 visits with physical therapy did a RFA ablation now going to do a bilateral steroid injection and if that doesn’t help I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon and I’m considering fixing the problem.

Unfortunately I also have a small inguinal hernia that has also been problematic as well. Had a eval today and the dr would like to schedule surgery to repair it which would take about 2 weeks to recover. Not sure what the waiting period is from one surgery to another if I do have neck surgery for this pinched nerve which has been causing a flare up since July.
